OFFSHORE
It has been wet for the last week so not to much to report. The guys that got out for a fish are still getting plenty of Snapper and other reef fish. The Snapper fishing hasn't been as good as the last couple of years but it is still fishing well, the last couple of years were exceptionally good. snapper of 5 and 6kg are not uncommon, even on the quiet days most people seem to manage one or two good fish of that standard. Durras is probably the pick at the moment but Moruya is fairing well and around Narooma is also seeing some good Snapper action with the North side of the Island fishing best.
Most of the Flathead drifts are producing fish, with the south side of Montague fishing best. Some good drifts around Moruya and Broulee, Jimmy's Island, Durras and Bawley which is the pick of the lot up the north end of the Eurobodalla. Bawley Point always seems to produce good catches of Flathead most of the year, there is only the odd day up there when you struggle.
ROCK & BEACH
Salmon, Tailor, Trevally, Snapper, Drummer, Blackfish and Bream are all been caught off the rocks at the moment. Just remember when chasing Drummer that AB GUT is illegal to use. A peeled Prawn, Cunjovi and even Bread will catch Drummer. Most of the Snapper are coming off the rocks around Durras, A Squid or Occy tentacle set out the back or simply just an unweighted pilchard floating around in the current should see you catch your share of Snapper.
The boys at Narooma are still catching some massive Salmon down there off most of the beaches. Salmon and Tailor will take most baits and lures, most people like spinning metal lures for the Salmon, but another option is a surface popper. Most days the metal will out fish but some days the popper works best and is a lot more exciting when a fish comes to the surface to grab it.
The beaches have also been fishing well for Bream and Flathead, as he water warms up the Flathead will come on the bite and the Bream will move back into the rivers (which there starting to do now). So target the beaches near the river mouths this time of the year for your Big Bream.
ESTUARY
Bream have been moving back into the rivers, this recent rain may have held them off for a little while, but they should be moving back in now. Had a couple of hours in Moruya river on the Sunday before it rained and the fishing was excellent. Caught quite a few Trevally, a few Tailor and a heap of Bream, all decent fish with biggest going 44cm fork length. There has also been plenty of Bream hanging around the oyster racks in the Clyde river.
Still plenty of Flathead been caught in the Tuross Lakes, the average size of the Flathead down there have been quite large with plenty of 60cm plus size fish been caught. The water is still quite cold in the lakes and rivers, so the Flathead can be quite lethargic. So often big lures are the way to go or make lots of casts and hope you land it in front of their face.
