Another Scene Of Neglect
December 12th, 2007 at 12:35 am by admin in General NewsA couple of weeks ago we brought to your attention the sad state of the Moruya Break wall. Nothing has been done as yet and although there hasn't been any rough weather since then it is now much worse, more photos soon.
It is now clear that the wall in Moruya is not the only one in urgent need of repair. As these photos (taken yesterday) at Hanging Rock, show.

“SNOWY BRUMBIES UNDER THREAT”
Last week National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) placed their Horse Management Plan Draft (HMP) for Kosciuszko National Park (KNP) on public exhibition.
Our review confirms that this plan is extremely biased in its presentation and we highlight that it fails to mention-
· The cultural heritage value of the Snowy Brumby
· The Brumbies legendary and iconic status in the eyes of the Australian public
· That these Brumbies are the descendants of a large contingent of horses that were shipped overseas and faithfully served our troops in the Sudan Campaign, Boer War, Great War and second World War and were never allowed to return
· The Brumbies tourism value and subsequent contribution to the economy
· The positive benefits of the Brumby grazing native grasses, the resultant fuel load reduction and sweeter grass for all wildlife
Other critical deficiencies exposed in the plan are-

Tourist Attraction??
November 20th, 2007 at 11:18 am by admin in General NewsOne of the arguments used regularly in support of the creation of marine parks is that they attract visitors to the area and that in time Batemans Marine Park will be seen as an asset to the area. Personally I believe this argument is full of holes. One long time asset of the area with a proven record of attracting visitors is the break-wall at the mouth of the Moruya River.
Unfortunately this great asset, tourist attraction and favorite fishing spot is also full of holes and in need of some TLC. Click the photo above to see the current state of this once great attraction, and add your thoughts on how this should be allowed to happen.

Government Mislead Governor
November 15th, 2007 at 02:14 am by admin in General NewsA speech made in parliament today on behalf of Coastal Rights Association puts on public record the fact that the government mislead the people of New South Wales and also the Governor in it's zoning of Batemans Marine Park.

Of those pictured above (left to right) the Premier, ex-minister for environment Bob Debus and Minister Macdonald were in charge of creating Batemans Marine Park, and between them must share the blame for misleading not only to the public of New South Wales but also to the Governor.
Misleading to Parliament can have you sacked I wonder what misleading the Governor will bring.
The next two current Minister for the environment Phil Koperberg and minister assisting the minister Verity Firth were not even elected during the creation of this mess so can't be held accountable for what others have done.
But judging by their actions so far, Minister for environment missing in action Not One Word on the subject since taking office, and his assistant offering no assistance to the public on the matter. It would seem they are prepared to go along for the ride.
Be careful folks! I have a feeling it may be all down hill from here.
Don't worry Ministers. There may still be time to redeem yourselves, so incase you missed what the Member for Bega had to say in the house, copies of the speech and all relevant documents are on their way to you now, as well as copies to the Governor and major media outlets.
I suggest you pay particular attention to the call at the end.
For those who are not in the habit of watching parliament, below are video and audio recordings of the speech. You can also read the speech and all documents mentioned in parliament. You will need Adobe Reader 8

Who’s Counting
October 31st, 2007 at 11:18 pm by admin in Digging DeeperI heard some interesting news on Tuesday, I have included two recordings below one from radio 2ec and the next from ABC Southeast.
"Local divers team up with a leading environment
group to survey fish in our new marine park."
I do admire the divers for there volunteer work, though I question the motives of the environment group involved.
More soon on the NPA, their methods, secret meetings and agenda.

ABC Southeast Coastkeepers Survey [11:50m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (65)It still seems that the whole marine park process in NSW has the cart before the horse. Surely it would be far better to have done a thorough survey prior to declaring the park, to understand what lives here and how it is coping after almost 200 years of European settlement and learn what may need protection, from what and then decide how best to go about it.
